You are perfect for Atlanta... You should probably stay around the midtown area, it is pretty hip, full of young people, known for gays, and pretty safe. However, to be in Atlanta, you would probably need to rent a car or have someone here who can drive you around. We have cab service here, but you have to call them first wherever you are and prices could be high after a week visit or so. If you're here only for a weekend, then I wouldn't worry about it. Clubs you should consider is Compound, which is hip and has a great crowd. For Drinks...Strip, Twist, or Shout have a good crowd if you want to mingle. The Buckhead, virginia highlands area is also great for bar hopping or clubbing (buckhead would be more gay ppl than VH). There are also gay clubs and bars, which I don't know, but I'll find out for you from my gay friends. :) You should come now before it gets cold, and Atl CAN get cold. If you can't, then wait until the spring (april is perfect). Definitely, bring a friend, you'll have more fun here, Atlanta is not somewhere like nyc where you can wander, eat, and have fun by yourself. Besides, having someone with you, you'll be able to share more costs. Btw, if you get bored, drop by lenox mall and phipps plaza, lots of hot guys for you especially during the festival. (I worked at the mall for two years..trust me on this :) Have FUN~~ EDIT: ok, here are a couple of gay bars and clubs you can try: Wetbar Red Chair

I feel that anytime is a good time to travel to Atlanta--cold or hot because there are places to go that could be outdoors like Centennial Park when Christmas time comes or indoors like the CNN Center or Underground Mall or any mall. to do in Atlanta, 1. Lenox mall is HUGE you can always go shopping. 2. The Aquarium 3. Braves Games 4. High Museum of Art 5. Nice mother daughter lunch spots in buckhead. I love high tea at the ritz,with their little sandwiches, but you will both need a dress. Also, Prime, the Bucket shop, and Twist! 6. there is a Hard Rock cafe if you want some touristy stuff. 7. White water 8. Six Flags 9. Stone mountain hike the mountain and bring a pic-nic to the lazer show. 10. The Varsity is a must! 11. The zoo is amazing. It depends what kind of car you drive, how you drive, what route you take, which gas stations you stop at.

First of all you would need to know How many MPG's (miles per gallon) your vehicle gets. Then 2nd you need to know how many miles it is from Chicago to Atlanta and from Atlanta back to Chicago. You would take the total miles (round trip) and divide that number by the MPG's (miles per gallon) your vehicle gets. This will tell you how many gallons of gas you are going to need. Multiply the number of gallons needed by the $ amount gas costs and thats how much it will cost you!!

Enter your starting address and your destination address and click the "get directions" button to find out how many miles you need to go (one way). Multiply it by two to get the total miles. And time change is different to so they could be moody. And what a coinsodince when I went to India I was living in Atlanta at the time!!!

no more difficult than travelling anywhere with young children. my late husband and i took our 2 boys, aged 3 1/2 and 2 from Australia to India which necessitated a stopover of 1 night and several plane changes etc and had no trouble at all, mind you that was in the early 70's and things are much improved since then. most airline hostesses are sympathetic and very helpful particularly as you are by yourself and airlines do provide things to amuse children like colouring in books etc. as we had no idea what to expect we packed a number of their favourite games and toys in a small bag but in actual fact did not need them as they were more fascinated with the new stuff. why not ring the airlines, customer service or similar and ask them what they provide etc so you have some guidelines to work from. remember their passports (my children were on mine) and don't forget the visa requirements for you all. don't stress, enjoy the trip there are people there to help you.

Be careful. Last time I drove through, they were still clearing things up after the Tornado that passed through.

Get a good road map. The exits are kinda confusing if youre not from here( i-75 and I-85 are one road, called the downtown connector). Consider using the marta rail system if youre going to a braves game.(As a bonus, you'll have additional time to sober up if youve been sitting in the all-you-can-drink section.)

Well, what exactly do you mean by travel tips? Because the exits in Atlanta are so confusing (they can often overlap if you're not careful), make sure you plan out your trip ahead of time, and not when you're sitting in traffic on I-75. If you want to do something in and around Turner Field, there are tons of good restaurants around there. If you want to be in Turner Field, there's a lot to do before and after the game (especially if you're a drinker... ha). Try www.accessatlanta.com. Original question was answered telling me to fly to CLT however, Greensboro is closer via Delta. The fare is too expensive and I would like to consider Amtrak and know what the closest city would be to Wilkesboro, NC, the cost and the schedule and the travel time involved. My next consideration would be via bus, the cost, the schedule, number of stops and the travel time.

Amtrak can get you from Atlanta to Alexandria VA, to High Point, NC to Winston-Salem NC. The fare is about $170, and it'll take about 11 hours. I don't think that Amtrak stops in Wilkesboro.
Answer 2 :
The Amtrak crescent goes from Atlanta to Charlotte, NC (258 miles) in a little over 5 hours for $49. You would be about 86 miles from North Wilkesboro. The Amtrak continues on to Kannapolis,High Point and Greensboro, which are a few miles closer, but certainly not worth the extra time on the train. There is no train service to Wilkesboro. The biggest problem is that the train arrives in Charlotte at 1:40 in the morning making it hard to find services. The train station closes at midnight so no one will be there to help you. If someone can drive over and pick you up it would be a lot easier. The Greyhound bus is faster than the train (it goes from Atlanta to Charlotte in as little as 4:15 at night) but is not as comfortable. On the other hand you can probably come into the city at a more reasonable time. ------------------------------------------------------------------ You know, that town of N. Wilkesboro is just too small (pop 4000). It doesn't even have a bus station. I think you should take the train to Charlotte and see if you can get someone to pick you up. Possibly Enterprise Car Rental will meet you in the middle of the night and rent you a car.

I've lived here for about 10 years. I prefer Fall over Spring in Atlanta. There are still plenty of festivals in the fall. I don't think any season is cheaper than another here in Atlanta, I think prices all deal with what is going on in the city during the time you visit. Obviously, when there are conventions, or major sporting events, concerts or things like DragonCon, hotels cost more than if there are no major events occurring while you are here.

I think it's 'six of one, half dozen of another.' Both seasons are great in Atlanta, with plenty of festivals. (The Dogwood Festival coming up this weekend is one of my favorites - but there are plenty of fall festivals in and around Atlanta as well.) If I was you, I'd base my decision on when it's most convenient to get away -- especially if air fares are comparable. I would assume hotels would be similarly priced, as long as you avoid periods when there are conventions in town -- though, if you stay outside of town, say in Smyrna or Marietta, the rates are probably constant throughout the year, varying more on the day of the week (i.e. hotels appealing to business people tend to drop rates over the weekend.)

Just find the distance between any location and then divide that by the speed of the storm. I have found storms to move very slowly or up to around 35-45mph and sometimes more. There is no ideal speed of movement by the average severe storm moves about those speeds that I have listed. What is the cheapest way to travel from Atlanta to New York City?
Me and my family of 5 are planing to go to New York on the 21 of December, and stay for 2 week. Im not sure whats the cheapest way to get their. I was thinking it would be to rent a car and drive up their. If anyone knows any cheap airlines that would be very helpful.
